A Project Completed!

I have finally completed one of my many projects that I have been planning!

My dilemma has been what to do with my sewing supplies, sewing machine, computer, printer and everyday craft supplies. I had an area set up in the living room in the basement, but with a busy two year old son and a growing 5 month old daughter, I never had the time or desire to seclude myself down there to work on anything. I was always bringing up all of my supplies and cluttering up my dining room table. I decided something had to be done. So I got the brilliant idea to turn this unused cart into my little home office/sewing center in the empty corner in the dining room.

The second problem...it was ugly and just did not look appropriate in a dining room. So I decided to make a cover for it out of left over materials I had used when recovering the dining room chairs and making the dining room valance and table runner. I figured if it had a coordinating cover, it would hide everything and could be used as a little serving area when we had dinner guests. Here is the result along with some pictures of the other fabric decorations I had already made for the dining room:

Actually, I have already finished another project as well, but it is a gift so it probably won't be showing up here. Now on to the next one...Happy creating!

Sidewalk Chalk!

Well, I still haven't found my camera cord, so I have decided to post about our fun afternoon with sidewalk chalk from last week.

Colby received a great bucket of sidewalk chalk for his second birthday in June, but we had never played with it. I found it in the storage closet last week and realized we really needed to get it out on such a beautiful day. Coloring and drawing are two of Colby's favorite things to do, so I knew he was going to love this. And he did! Of course he liked watching me draw things almost more than doing it himself. We did a chalk outline of Chloe and me, but he didn't want to lay down on the driveway. I have to say, I forgot how hard it is to draw with those fat chunks of chalk. Anyway, we had a great time. I then decided to draw hopscotch. I showed Colby how to do it, then took pictures. It was so funny watching a two year old who can't jump try to hopscotch. In the picture you can see how hard he was concentrating (notice the stuck out tongue).

Of course Chloe couldn't really participate, but she thoroughly enjoyed relaxing in the sun in her swing.

UPDATE: I found my camera cord!!! A new post will be coming tomorrow. :)

Technical difficulties

I have so much to post about, but I can't find the cord to download the pics from my camera to my computer. That's what happens when I clean for company. The stuff that I normally leave out gets put away, then I can't find it.

So check back later today...hopefully I will have found it by then!

"Mom, I luf herrrr"

Those are some of the sweetest words I hear everyday. It is amazing to me to watch my children spending time together. Their bond is so strong, even at such a young age. No matter what kind of mood Colby is in, even if he is in the middle of throwing a fit, Chloe can make him smile and laugh. He loves her! And Chloe just can't get enough of her big brother. Even when she is starving and trying to nurse, if she hears him anywhere she will stop whatever she is doing and crank her head in every which direction to find out where he is and what he is doing. Whenever she cries Colby tells me to help her. Whenever Colby cries, Chloe cries. Such tender hearts! They both just absolutely light up when they are around each other. I can't imagine what could make me happier. I love my little family and I feel such a sense of contentment when I see them loving each other.

Procrastination

Hi. My name is Olivia and I am a procrastinator. This probably won't come as much of a surprise to some of you. It is sad but true. As proof, here is a pic of my stack of fabrics that are sadly waiting for me to get around to making wonderful things with them.

I have been really bad lately about buying fabrics for and planning all sorts of projects and then not doing them. Or at least not finishing them. I now have at least one project with a definite deadline, so that will get finished by the first weekend in October. I have another project that I would like to get done this week, but I'm not making any promises. *Sigh* Okay, in an effort to make myself feel better and jump start my creative mojo, here are a couple of pics of two of my favorite completed projects.

The first is of Molly Monkey. I made her for Chloe a couple of months ago using the awesome pattern from Larissa of mmmcrafts. The other picture is of the quilt I made for Colby. I started it when I was pregnant and finished it when he was almost one. Sad, I know.

Things I Love about Chloe

  • At only 5 months old, she already gives the BEST hugs!
  • Her smile that lights up a room in a way that pictures will never be able to capture
  • Her beautiful eyes and dark curly lashes
  • The love she has for her big brother
  • The way she is always smiling when you get her up in the morning
  • Her persistence...while it can be tiring for her mommy now, I am sure it will serve her well later in life.
  • The way she hums/moans herself to sleep when she is really tired
  • She IS the SWEET to my tea!

Look what I did...

As most of you know, Curt is working (like always) and has been going to school for the past couple of years. Well this week was one of those weeks where he was just not around much because of his other responsibilities. Tuesday was a fun day that consisted of a trip to a flooded park where the kids played in mud and water up to their knees all morning.

Needless to say, Colby had to have a bath when we got home from frolicking in the world's largest puddle. Then it was time for a nap. After such an adventurous morning and heading into another evening without Curt, I decided to end the day with a treat. After dinner, I loaded the kids in the Jeep and we headed out for McDonald's Oreo McFlurries. Colby even got his own. By the time we got home, Chloe was ready for bed. I gave Colby his ice cream and told him to eat it while I put her to bed. (Anyone who has had a McFlurry knows that they are always pretty melted shortly after getting them.) So I fed Chloe and got her to sleep and came back out to the living room to find this:

That's right...melted McFlurry splattered over every inch of the living room! It was on both couches, the arm chair, the coffee table, the carpet, and every inch of Colby. It was one of those moments where you either laugh or cry, so I took pictures. I couldn't help it, he was just so proud of what he had accomplished. I only wish they really showed the magnitude of the mess. I'm not sure our living room will ever be the same!

Buddies...

Last week we were hanging out at home, Curt was watching a football game and Colby was sitting across the room. Out of nowhere I overheard Colby say,

"Daddy, we're best friends."

My boys are the best!

Our first entry!

Well, I have decided to start a little family blog. I hope to update it fairly regularly, but only time will tell if I stick with it. :) We have had a great summer despite Curt being gone too much with school and work. We took a couple of trips to the lake, visited grandparents, had grandparents come visit us, went camping, had lots of playdates, had a visit from Texas family, went to a children's museum and really enjoyed our great backyard.

Even though the summer has been great, I really like the changing weather! The nights are cool and the days are just warm enough. Curt cut down two dead trees in the yard and we had a bonfire. Our friends came over to enjoy it with us. We roasted hot dogs and made some yummy S'mores!

Monday night a new baby was added to the family. Grace Elizabeth Dispennett was born! We are excited to have another niece and a girl cousin for Chloe to play with. Congrats Doug and Julie! We can't wait to meet her!

I'll leave with some pictures from our last trip to the lake...
